CNS & Sensory Integration
Central Nervous System regulation is the ability to move flexibly between different states of arousal in response to stressors. The better we are at regulation the less impact a change in our environment has on our nervous system and therefore we can adapt to these changes and not get overwhelmed.
Sensory integration is to understand ones sensory system, by going through an assessment process that looks at what senses are under or over stimulated. And therefore, what specific sensory techniques can be used to maintain a balance state of arousal allowing you to move through your day maintaining a balanced state of arousal to experience presence and calm.
For instance, loud and noisy environments can over stimulate our auditory sensory system, setting off our nervous system into the parasympathetic state and dysregulating us. But if you know what works for your specific sensory system you can put certain techniques in place before, during or after accessing such spaces.
